"Images" whose basis or matter is water do not have the same durability and solidity as those yielded by earth, by crystals, metals, and precious stones. They do not have the vigorous life of fire images. Waters do not fashion “true lies.” To be deceived by river mirages, a soul must be quite disturbed.

Kalevala with Jaana
Thursday, feb 10. Jaana treats us to the next installment of the Kalevala, told in stick figures on the white board.
Weird. Jaana's name was in the title when I posted but got dropped when it published.
The Kalevala is considered one of the great epics of the world and is ranked with the likes of the Illiad, the Ionian Songs, the Mahabharata, the Shalinameth, and the Nibelunge.
I found a free version for my Kindle and am just reading the introduction currently - in between work and classwork, natch.

How interesting! I hadn't heard of the Kalevala before this, but apparently there's a copy online through "Sacred Texts."
